Get started

From the box to opening night.

Eight steps, about ten minutes, all from your phone. Keep this page open beside the poster.

You need
  • Your Digital Poster and its power supply
  • A TV or monitor with an HDMI input, and the HDMI cable from the box
  • Your home Wi-Fi name and password
  • An iPhone or Android phone with Bluetooth
  1. Plug it in

    On the poster screenWelcome

Connect the poster to your screen with the HDMI cable, then plug in the power. The screen shows a welcome message and a code like the one you just scanned. It can be on its side or upside down for now; that gets fixed in a moment.

If it doesn't Nothing shows up? Make sure the screen is on the right HDMI input, the way you would for a games console.

  2. Get the app

    On the poster screenWelcome

Install the Digital Poster app from Flarepoint Labs on your phone, then create an account or sign in. Everything about your poster is controlled from here.

Not in the App Store or Google Play yet. Digital Poster is in testing before launch, and the app is supplied to testers directly by Flarepoint Labs. If you have a poster and no app, email hello@flarepointlabs.com. The store links will appear here the day the listings are live.

  3. Find your poster

On the poster screenWaiting for your phone

Stand near the screen with Bluetooth switched on and tap Add a poster in the app. The app finds the poster over Bluetooth, so it does not need your Wi-Fi password yet and neither does the poster.

If it doesn't Not found? Check Bluetooth is on for your phone and that the app is allowed to use it. Walk closer: a metre or two is right.

  4. Enter the code

On the poster screenEnter this code

Six big digits appear on the poster screen. Type them into the app. This is how the app proves it is talking to your poster and not one next door.

If it doesn't The code changes if you leave it too long. If the app says it is wrong, read the screen again and type the digits it shows now.

  5. Choose your Wi-Fi

    On the poster screenJoining

The app lists the networks your poster can see. Pick yours and enter the password. The screen says Joining while it connects, and Connected when it has. The poster remembers the network from then on.

If it doesn't Wrong password? The screen says so and the app asks again. Network not listed? Move the poster closer to your router for setup, then hang it where you like once it has joined.

  6. Name it and hang it

    On the poster screenPaired

Give the poster a name so you can tell it apart if you add another. Then tell the app which edge of the screen is at the top. The picture turns the right way up on its own, so hang the screen however suits the wall: upright, upside down, or on its side.

  7. Pick your opening night

On the poster screenYour first posters

Choose a few films to start the rotation. Search any title and its real poster arrives. You can add, remove and reorder at any time from the Library tab.

  8. Screen and showtimes

On the poster screenThe show starts

Tell the app whether the screen is a TV or a monitor, so it knows how to switch it off at night, and pick the hours the poster should be awake. On a TV the app tests the switch-off with you. Then tap Finish setup and the show begins.

Something wrong?

The usual fixes.

The screen says Phone disconnected

Your phone dropped its Bluetooth link part way through. Go back into the app; it offers to reconnect and carries on where you left off. Stay within a couple of metres until setup is done.

The screen shows a connection notice

The poster cannot reach its online service. Saved posters keep showing and trailers pause. Check your router and internet connection first. If you have changed your Wi-Fi name or password, open Settings in the app, choose Change Wi-Fi network, and stand near the poster.

The picture is the wrong way up

Open the poster in the app, go to Settings, and change which edge is at the top. The screen turns itself round; no need to unplug anything.

Starting over

To hand the poster to someone else or begin again, use Restore factory settings in the app. Without the app: switch the power off and on three times within three minutes. The screen counts the cycles and gives you a moment to unplug and cancel.
